The Chung lab welcomes and uplifts people from all areas of diverse identities, and we find strength in our shared journeys in science. Please don't hesitate to contact Anny or any of the current members of the lab if you are interested in learning more about us and our research!

Graduate students

Anny will not be accepting graduate students for 2024.

Opportunities are generally available through the Integrative Plant Sciences PhD program, of which the Department of Plant Biology and the Department of Plant Pathology are members. Prospective PhD students who are eligible for the NSF-GRFP are encouraged to get in touch with Anny to develop ideas together ahead of the deadline.

Undergraduate students

If you would like to conduct independent research in the Chung lab, or would like to talk about what it may be like to join or work in a lab, an email to Anny with a short introduction of your research interests is the first step.

Postdocs

I am looking for an ecological modeler to join our plant and microbial ecology group as a postdoctoral researcher starting August 2024. This project is funded by the NSF, and investigates mechanisms underlying the role of microbes in shrubland-grassland ecotonal dynamics. The prospective postdoc will lead the development of spatially-explicit models of plant-plant interactions, plant-microbe interactions, and plant-soil feedbacks. There is also potential to pursue independent projects under the general umbrella of: the ecology of plant-soil feedbacks and plant-microbe interactions, competition and coexistence, and effects of climate variability and elevated CO2 on plants and microbes.

The successful applicant will work within a collaborative research team of faculty and students at UGA and UNM that includes expertise in using mathematical, statistical, empirical approaches in plant and microbial population and community ecology. Demonstration of excellent writing skills and strong statistical/analytical skills are essential, and familiarity with plant-soil feedback and coexistence theory desired. This appointment is initially for one year, but may be renewed for an additional year.
